USF Transfer Has Virginia Tech On List
South Florida sophomore guard Jahmal McMurray has listed Virginia Tech on his transfer list along with six other teams.
Just three games into his sophomore season with South Florida, the USF Bulls have announced that Jahmal McMurray has announced he will be leaving the program.
McMurray, who started all but five games last season for the Bulls, was an American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team selection after leading the team in scoring with 15.2 points per game.
This season got off to a rocky start for McMurray but he quickly gathered himself averaging 20.3 points per game along with 2.7 rebounds and two assists per game in three games with South Florida.
Today he released the schools showing the most interest: St. John’s, Arizona State, Virginia Tech, New Mexico St, Western Kentucky and UNC Wilmington. McMurray will not be available until January 2018, sitting out the remainder of this season and the first semester of next season.
Prior to USF, he was rated as a three-star recruit by rivals.com from Topeka, Kansas where he was three-time all-state selection at Highland Park High School, including first-team all-state as a senior.
In his first year with South Florida, McMurray played in 33 games (starting in 26). He went on to finish the season with at least one made three-pointer in 28 consecutive games. He averaged 15.2 points, 2.8 rebounds per game and finished with a .391 shooting percentage.
McMurray went on to score a season-high 30 points for USF on January 23, the most by a freshman since Dominique Jones when he scored 31 against Seton Hall on February 26, 2008.
It is simple, the kid can score. Inside, outside, doesn’t really matter — McMurray can put the ball through the bucket. That is something the Virginia Tech Hokies need coming off the bench. McMurray made a season-high six three-pointers against Jacksonville back on December 16, 2015.
If Buzz Williams and his coaching staff can work their magic to get McMurray, do not be surprised if you see him in a Hokies uniform in the near future.
