UNC Basketball: Duke sign prompts Carolina fans to rally for Flint

A sign at a Duke basketball game sparked an effort from UNC fans to help Flint, Michigan

The Duke Blue Devils took care of business against the Michigan State Spartans during the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday night.

While the game was a fun one to watch, it’s a sign spotted in Duke’s student section by a Cameron Crazy that got the attention.

WRAL’s Joe Ovies tweeted out a photo of a sign in the student section that read “The water tastes better in North Carolina.” After posting it, many criticized the fan and rightfully so.

The sign refers to the awful water problem residents of Flint, Michigan have had to deal with for months now. It’s no laughing matter.

The sign sparked some outrage on Twitter among UNC fans and other college basketball fans that saw it.

But one alum decided to step up to the plate and do something about it.

UNC School of Media and Journalism alum Katherine Fitzgerald pledged to donate for every point Flint native Miles Bridges scored on Tuesday night:

Others followed suite.

Former UNC and Detroit Pistons star Rasheed Wallace wrote on the water crisis for the Player’s Tribune in October.

Wallace is passionate about the cause, trying to find a solution so people in Flint can have clean water.

If you’re looking for a way to donate, you can visit CFGF, the United Way, the Red Cross and Convoy of Hope.
