UC Irvine beats Norfolk State to win Haskins title
Mamadou Ndiaye tied a career high with 21 points and Luke Nelson added 17 to lead UC Irvine to an 80-62 win over Norfolk State in the championship game of the Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso, Texas, on Tuesday night.
The Anteaters won their third straight and improved to 10-4 for their best start since 2002-03 while giving sixth-year coach Russell Turner his 100th win at the school.
Nelson was named tournament MVP after scoring 16 points in Monday's 63-53 win over Sam Houston State.
Charles Oliver led the Spartans (5-8) with 18 points after scoring a career-best 22 in an 85-76 victory over host UTEP on Monday.
