Texas A&M-CC tops Elon, 85-81 in mainland Battle 4 Atlantis
ELON, N.C. (AP) Rashawn Thomas and Jelani Currie both scored 18 points and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi held off host Elon 85-81 in a mainland section of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament on Friday night.
Elon took the lead, 74-72 with 5:18 left on Tanner Samson's 3-pointer, but Brandon Pye tied it with two free throws and Ehab Amin gave the Islanders the lead for good on a jumper with 4:19 left. Thomas pushed the lead to 81-74 with just under two minutes to go by scoring five-straight points.
Thomas was 8 of 11 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds for the Islanders (4-2), who collectively shot 52.5 percent from the floor (32 of 61), including 5 of 14 from beyond the arc.
Samson knocked down 4 of 10 from distance and finished with 23 points to lead the Phoenix (3-3). Dainan Swoope added 16 points and Luke Eddy contributed another 12.
