Tennessee Basketball: Vols Forward Grant Williams Named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week

Tennessee basketball forward Grant Williams was named Southeastern Conference co-Freshman of the week after the Volunteers’ games against Ole Miss and UGA.

He is emerging as a dominant force underneath the basket for Tennessee basketball, and Grant Williams is finally starting to garner recognition as a result.

The forward was named SEC co-Freshman of the Week this past week alongside forward Robert Williams of the Texas A&M Aggies, according to SECSports online.

Here is what was said about both players.

Grant Williams had 18 points against the Ole Miss Rebels and 30 points against the Georgia Bulldogs.

He had seven rebounds against the Rebels as well, and his big numbers come despite him being only 6’5″.

Currently, Williams is on a seven-game streak of scoring in double-figures, and he has clearly emerged as the Vols’ top player underneath the basket.

If Tennessee basketball is to close the season strong and squeak into the NCAA Tournament, they are going to need Williams to continue to come up big.

Sindarius Thornwell of the South Carolina Gamecocks was named SEC Player of the Week overall. And that made sense given the fact that he had 44 points and 21 rebounds in one game and then added 28 points the next game.

The 6’5″ guard had one of the most impressive weeks in SEC basketball history.
