SUNY report coming Tuesday on Binghamton

A preliminary report to state university trustees is expected on Tuesday, providing the first glimpse of an investigation into Binghamton University's troubled athletics program.

SUNY Trustees Chairman Carl Hayden says he will have some comments on the contents of the report from Judith Kaye.

University President Lois B. DeFleur confirmed Friday that Kaye, New York state's former chief judge, has had conversations with school officials about the investigation.

The chain of events that triggered the probe began in February after a newspaper report raised questions about the character of players coach Kevin Broadus had recruited to the basketball program.

Broadus remains on campus but is on a paid leave of absence announced earlier this week from his $217,000 job as coach. Assistant coach Mark Macon has taken over in the interim.
