Sources: Hewitt to George Mason
Paul Hewitt will replace Jim Larranaga at George Mason.
Hewitt, who was let go at Georgia Tech in March, interviewed for the job earlier in the week and verbally accepted the offer on Saturday, multiple industry sources told FOXSports.com.
A news conference is scheduled for Sunday at George Mason.
Hewitt, 47, took the Yellow Jackets to the national championship game in 2004 and to five NCAA tournament appearances, but the program struggled this past season. His career mark at Georgia Tech was 190-162 in 11 seasons.
He replaces the 61-year-old Larranaga, who led George Mason to the Final Four in 2006 and had a 273-164 mark in 14 seasons at the school. Larranaga left for Miami last week.
George Mason has just about everyone of note back except for leading scorer Cam Long and is expected to be the preseason favorite in the CAA.
The Patriots are ranked No. 22 in FOXSports.com latest Preseason Top 25 for next season.
