Seton Hall's Isaiah Whitehead expect to miss Sunday's game

Seton Hall's leading scorer Isaiah Whitehead sat the entire second half in Friday's 67-59 win over Bradley in the Charleston Classic. Whitehead will likely miss the fifth-place game on Sunday against Ole Miss.

The sophomore lead guard suffered a minor concussion last week against Wagner, according to Chris McManus of SHUHoops.com.

"Probably not," Willard said when asked if Whitehead would play against the Rebels. "He had a minor concussion after the Wagner game. It was a minor concussion, but it was a concussion, so he had to go through the protocol. His first day playing was yesterday, that's when he got cleared, so he did't practice Wednesday. Very light practice on Wednesday for about 30 minutes ... He got his bell rung pretty good, but when your coming off a concussion and you get your bell rung, you've got to go through the protocol. Our trainer and doctor said it was best to sit him for the half and to do concussion tests after the game."

The Pirates were able to bounce back from a loss to Long Beach State in the event's quarterfinals behind a career night for Desi Rodriguez, who finished with 18 points and eight boards.

Whitehead leads the team in scoring at 15.5 points per game. Without him in the lineup, it'll be up to Khadeen Carrington and Derrick Gordon to slow down Stefan Moody, Ole Miss' diminutive point guard who leads the team in scoring at 24.8 points per game. But the key to Sunday's game could reside on the inside, a place when the Pirates hold the advantage, especially if Rodriguez builds off his performance from Friday. The Rebels have struggled getting production from their big men, getting outrebounded 44-29 in an upset loss to George Mason in the Charleston Classic quarterfinals. However, Marcanvis Hymon, a 6-foot-6 freshman, is coming off the best game of his young career -- 20 points and nine rebounds in a win over Towson -- after being inserted into the starting lineup.
