San Francisco defeats Rice 80-54 in season opener

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Devin Watson scored 12 points to lead a balanced attack as San Francisco defeated Rice 80-54 in the season opener for both teams on Monday night.

Tim Derksen, Uche Ofoegbu and Ronnie Boyce III each scored 11 points and Chase Foster added 9 for the Dons. Watson dished out six assists and Derksen four as San Francisco had 17 assists on 31 field goals.

The Dons went deep into their bench with 12 players scoring at least 2 points.

Egor Koulechov scored 17 points for Rice with 10 rebounds - his first career double-double - and Marcus Evans added 14 points.

San Francisco stretched its lead in the second half. Dont'e Reynolds blocked a shot from the wing that Ofoegbu turned into a fast-break, two-handed dunk that ended with him swinging from the rim. Reynolds also had three of the Dons' 10 steals.
