Sam Houston St. 71, Texas St. 68

Demarcus Gatlin scored 19 points and Marcus James added 18 to lead Sam Houston State to a 71-68 victory against Texas State on Wednesday night.

The Bearkats (8-10, 2-2 Southland Conference) led 70-63 with 2:35 remaining when Texas State mounted a furious comeback. The Bobcats (8-9, 1-3) needed just 15 seconds to cut the margin to two points with a Reid Koenen layup and Eddie Rios 3-pointer.

But Texas State went scoreless the rest of the way. After Sam Houston State got a free throw by Marquel McKinney with six seconds left, Vonn Jones missed a 3-point shot at the buzzer for the Bobcats.

Rios led Texas State with 18 points. Matt Staff added 16, all in the first half.

Konner Tucker had 10 points and Steven Werner nine rebounds for the Bearkats.
