Saint Mary's Jock Landale wins WCC player of year award

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (AP) Saint Mary's center Jock Landale has been selected as the West Coast Conference player of the year.

Landale got the award Tuesday after averaging 21.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game this season for the 22nd-ranked Gaels, while shooting 64 percent from the field.

In other awards given out, Gonzaga's Mark Few won coach of the year after winning a sixth straight regular-season title and Bulldogs guard Zack Norvell Jr. was the top newcomer.

Pacific center Namdi Okonkwo was picked as the conference's top defensive player.
