S. Utah 75, S. Virginia 58

Ramell Taylor scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds, and Southern Utah cruised to a 75-58 victory Wednesday night over Southern Virginia.

Damon Heuir added 11 points for the Thunderbirds (4-2), who shot 58 percent (30 of 52) from the field. Ray Jones Jr. and Matt Massey each scored 10.

Spenser Briggs led Southern Virginia (3-4) with 13 points. Casey Nye scored 11 but had eight turnovers.

Southern Utah capitalized on the Knights' mistakes, scoring 28 points off 22 turnovers, and dominated inside, outscoring Southern Virginia 46-23 in the paint.

The Knights' last lead of the game was 5-2 after a Briggs 3-pointer 3:44 into the game. Southern Utah responded with a 13-2 run, including six points from Taylor, and ultimately took a 38-29 lead into halftime.

It was the second meeting between the schools; the first was in the 2000-01 season and was also a Thunderbirds win.
