Rubit scores 22; South Alabama beats Troy 86-78

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) Augustine Rubit finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two blocks, leading South Alabama past Troy 86-78 on Saturday night.

South Alabama (9-18, 3-11 Sun Belt Conference) opened the game with a 12-2 run, capped by a jumper from Rubit, and never trailed. The Jaguars led by as many as 26 points in the first half and took a 45-25 lead into the break.

Troy used a 12-0 spurt early in the second half to pull within 11 with 16:08 remaining and a 10-1 run a few minutes later to make it 62-56 with 7:29 to play.

Antoine Allen scored all of South Alabama's points during a 7-2 that pushed the Jaguars' lead to 84-72 with 43 seconds to go.

South Alabama made 33 of 63 field goals (51.6 percent) while outscoring Troy (9-17, 4-10) 40-24 in the paint.

Hunter Williams led the Trojans with 24 points.
