Robert Morris beats Monmouth (NJ) 69-51

Lucky Jones had 15 points to lead four double-figure scorers for Robert Morris, which used an imposing early run to cruise past Monmouth (N.J.) 69-51 on Saturday night.

Keith Armstrong and Velton Jones scored 11 points apiece, while Anthony Myers added 10 for the Colonials (6-2, 2-0 Northeast Conference).

Velton Jones opened the game with a 3-pointer and Robert Morris led the entire way, starting the game on a 25-6 run and cruised to an 18 point halftime lead. The teams scored 26 points apiece in the second half.

Robert Morris outshot Monmouth from the floor 48.9 percent (22 of 45) to just 35.9 percent (14 of 39).

Dion Nesmith scored 13 points to lead the Hawks (0-8, 0-2) and Jesse Steele added 11.

The Colonials, who are reigning back-to-back NEC conference champs, have won five straight against the Hawks and nine of their last 10 meetings.
