Rider clinches No. 1 seed for MAAC tourney with 110-101 win (Feb 25, 2018)
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) Dimencio Vaughn scored 26 points, Tyere Marshall had 19 points and 16 rebounds and Rider clinched the No. 1 seed for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament with its highest-scoring output of the season in beating Iona 110-101 on Sunday.
The Broncs (22-8, 15-3) share the regular-season title with Canisius. Rider will play the 8-9 winner at the tournament in Albany, New York, while fourth-seeded Iona (17-13, 11-7) will play the fifth seed.
Rider shot 61 percent. Anthony Durham scored 17 points and Frederick Scott and Kealen Washington-Ives, the latter with three of Rider's seven 3-pointers, had 15 each.
Rickey McGill made five of Iona's 13 3-pointers and scored a career-high 40 points for Iona, which beat Rider 91-64 on Jan. 14. E.J. Crawford added 18 points and Deyshonee Much 15.
Rider led the entire way, by 17 at halftime and by as many as 26 in the second half. Iona got within eight in the final minute but two Tyrei Randall free throws provided a 10-point cushion with 20 seconds left.
