Rhode Island Basketball: Rams to Face St. John's in Secret Scrimmage
News of a “secret” scrimmage has emerged. Rhode Island will reportedly take on St. John’s in a closed door showdown this preseason.
Some Rhody fans may instinctively cringe when they see St. John’s in an article title, but this is (mostly) non-Hurley related. The Rhode Island Rams will square off against the Red Storm in a “secret” scrimmage this preseason, according to a report. Zach Brazille was the first to drop the news on Twitter.
St. John's opted for just one exhibition game this year to have a closed scrimmage. It will be against Rhode Island, per source. #sjubb

The Johnnies are in the midst of a rebuild right now, as evidenced by their 8–24 (1–17) record last season under first-year head coach Chris Mullin. But they should be an improved squad this season, and the Rams will get a look at them before almost anyone else. If nothing else, it’ll prove to be a good tune-up for Rhody as they prepare for a highly-anticipated 2016-17 season.
Over the past few years, URI has played a pair of secret scrimmages, so it’s possible that we could hear about another one as November gets closer. In the meantime, there is no date, time, or location leaked yet for the St. John’s match-up.
