Report: Syracuse to go before NCAA over alleged trail of violations

The Syracuse football and men's basketball programs are under NCAA investigation for alleged academic improprieties and extra benefits that date back at least 10 years, ESPN reported.

The allegations involving Jim Boeheim's program come from as recently as 2013 and go back about 10 years, the report said. The allegations involving the football team stem from improprieties that occurred around 2004 or 2005 for a 2-3 year span.

The school will go before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions on Oct. 30-31, according to reports.

Syracuse.com reported that part of the NCAA's investigation regarding the hoops team focuses on Fab Melo's academic record. Melo missed the 2012 NCAA Tournament as a result of a suspension, which he later revealed was for academics. Teammate James Southerland's suspension in 2013 was the result of the NCAA's inquiry into the team's academic records, Syracuse.com reported.

Syracuse.com also reported that the NCAA's investigation into the football program predates the Doug Marrone regime, which began in Dec. 2008.
