Red Raiders fire coach Knight

Pat Knight’s tenure is over at Texas Tech.

Bob Knight’s son, who took over after the elder Knight retired on Feb. 4, 2008, has been fired.

FOXSports.com confirmed the news on Monday morning.

Pat Knight will coach the Red Raiders in Wednesday’s Big 12 tournament against Missouri.

Knight took over towards the end of the 2008 campaign and was 4-7. He then won 14 games in his first full season, then went 19-16 overall and 4-12 in league play a year ago.

Texas Tech went into this season with a veteran team and Knight knew it would be a make-or-break year.

“I expect a lot out of this team,” Knight said back in the preseason. “This being my third year, to me this is either a get an extension or a get fired type of year.”

Texas Tech struggled and finished the regular season with a 13-18 overall record and a 5-11 mark in Big 12 play.
