Providence's Kris Dunn, Marquette's Henry Ellenson earn Big East weekly hoors
For the second time this season, Providence point guard Kris Dunn was named Big East Player of the Week. Dunn led the Friars to an upset win over No. 11 Arizona in the Wooden Legacy on Friday night.
In four games, the redshirt junior guard averaged 20.0 points, 7.3 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. The week began with Dunn flirting with a quadruple-double in an 83-76 win over NJIT on Monday and ended with an appearance in the Wooden Legacy title game against No. 3 Michigan State.
Marquette forward Henry Ellenson was selected as the Big East Freshman of the Week. The 6-foot-10 Ellenson posted three consecutive double-doubles this week in wins over No. 22 LSU, Arizona State and Jackson State. He averaged 16.3 points and 10.7 boards during that stretch. His performance in the first two games helped the Golden Eagles bounce-back from a blowout loss to Iowa and claim the Legends Classic title.
Haanif Cheatham, another Marquette freshman, had a strong week as he scored 24 points (doubling his previous high) in a lopsided win over Jackson State on Sunday.
