Portland State's balances too much for Southern Utah (Feb 23, 2017)
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) De'Sean Parsons had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead a balanced attack as Portland State beat Southern Utah 93-86 on Thursday night.
There were 12 lead changes but after the eighth tie - 84-84 with 2:03 to go - the Vikings closed it out with a 9-2 run, seven points coming from the foul line.
Khari Holloway added 15 points, Deontae North 13, Calaen Robinson 13 and Bryce Canda 11 for the Vikings (13-13, 6-9 Big Sky).
Randy Onwuasor had 30 points and 12 rebounds for the Thunderbirds (5-23, 3-13) with James McGee adding 20.
Both teams had 27 field goals, including 12 3-pointers, but the Vikings were 16 of 21 in the second half and ended up a plus-7 from the line.
Traylin Farris had a jumper to break the tie with 1:25 left and a Southern Utah miss he made two free throws. Onwuasor got the T-birds last basked with a half minute left but Portland State made 5 of 6 from the line to ice it. Southern Utah made just 2 of its last 13 shots.
