Ohio State freshman, former four-star recruit, decides to transfer

Ten games into the season, Ohio State guard Austin Grandstaff decided he needed a change of scenery.

On Thursday afternoon, the freshman guard told Jeff Goodman of ESPN that he has decided to transfer from the program.

Grandstaff was part of a heralded recruiting class, one that included five-star guard JaQuan Lyle and fellow four-star prospects Daniel Giddens, A.J. Harris and Mickey Mitchell.

The 6-foot-5 sharpshooter averaged 4.4 points in 11.5 minutes per game.

He becomes the second freshman to transfer this week, following Elijah Thomas' decision to leave Texas A&M. Interestingly enough, Grandstaff and Thomas were AAU teammates in Texas.

"They have been nothing but great to me," Grandstaff told ESPN on Thursday. "But I just don't see it as the right fit, so I want to look somewhere else. They are great people, and Coach [Thad] Matta is a great coach."
