NC State loses junior guard Henderson for 6-8 weeks to ankle injury

RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina State has lost junior guard Terry Henderson for at least six to eight weeks with a right ankle injury.

The West Virginia transfer played seven minutes in his Wolfpack debut during Friday's 85-68 season-opening loss to William & Mary. Coach Mark Gottfried said afterward that X-rays revealed no fracture, but Henderson was taken to a hospital for additional evaluation.

The school announced Saturday that Henderson has torn ankle ligaments, an injury Gottfried called ''a big blow to Terry and our team.''

Henderson was projected to play a significant role for the Wolfpack and started the opener. He averaged 11.7 points in his last year at West Virginia, then practiced with N.C. State all last year while sitting out as a transfer.

N.C. State hosts South Alabama on Sunday.
