Navy 89, Towson 84

J.J. Avila scored 31 points and Navy defeated Towson 89-84 on Tuesday night.

The Midshipmen (2-5), who snapped a three-game losing skid, outscored the Tigers 52-36 in the first half.

Navy made 20 of 33 field goals (60.6 percent), including 8 of 10 from long range (80 percent) before halftime. The Midshipmen led by as many as 22 in the first half.

The second half was a different story for Navy's shooting accuracy as it was just 7 of 27 from the field (25.9 percent).

Towson (1-3) cut it to 80-77 on Brian Morris' 3-pointer with 1:25 to go, but a technical foul ended any hope of a comeback. Thirty-one seconds later, Troy Franklin fouled Avila and committed a technical, sending him to the line. Avila, who was 9 of 9 on foul shots, made all four to put Navy ahead 84-77.

Franklin finished with 18 points and Braxton Dupree had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Towson.
