Michigan State Recruiting: 5-star SG Gary Trent Jr. sets official visit

Michigan State recruiting is set to get a huge official visit from five-star 2017 shooting guard Gary Trent Jr.

There are plenty of big names still out there for Michigan State recruiting in the 2017 basketball class. Tom Izzo has already reeled in five-star power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. and seems to be very close to adding four-star big man Xavier Tillman. Could five-star shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. surprise some folks and join the Spartans as well?

The shooting guard originally from Apple Valley, Minn., now playing at Prolific Prep in California — where Josh Jackson went to school — has set his official visits. Michigan State is getting one of them, and it happens to be the final trip on his schedule.

Advantages come with being the final visit on the schedule for a recruit. Izzo can sway this kid and show him why Michigan State is the best possible place for him to grow and mature as a man and a basketball player. He has gotten recruits in the past by being the final official visit destination.

Don’t forget the fact that Trent Jr. is visiting on one of the most exciting weekends of the year. The football team is hosting in-state foe Michigan on the 29th of October, so Trent Jr. will get a taste of what he could experience on weekends if he chooses Michigan State.

Trent Jr. is ranked the No. 11 overall player in the 2017 class as well as the second-best shooting guard, according to 247Sports. Duke seems to be the heavy favorite right now, but there’s still a ways to go.
