Memphis Tigers' Shaq Goodwin suspended 1 game for tripping opponent while sitting on bench

Memphis senior forward Shaq Goodwin was suspended one game by the American Athletic Conference on Tuesday for tripping a South Carolina player while sitting on the bench during Saturday's 86-76 loss in Columbia, S.C.

Goodwin served the suspension Tuesday night during Memphis' home win over Nicholls State. 

Video showed Goodwin tripping Sindarius Thornwell when the South Carolina guard fell in front of the Memphis bench and tried to get back up and run down court. Click here to see video.

The Commercial Appeal reported Tigers coach Josh Pastner said he called Gamecocks coach Frank Martin on Sunday to apologize for Goodwin's infraction. Goodwin scored 13 points with nine rebounds in the loss, but was 3 of 10 from the field — and 7 of 7 from the line.

Goodwin, the Tigers' third-leading scorer (12.5 points per game) and second-leading rebounder (8.5), will be available for Saturday's road game at No. 23 Connecticut (10-3).

Memphis improved to 10-4 with its win Tuesday night, while South Carolina, one of two remaining undefeated Diviison I teams, upped its mark to 14-0 with a Tuesday win at Auburn. (No. 15 SMU is the other unbeaten at 13-0.)
