Maryland lands Georgia Tech's Carter, who must sit out a year
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland's basketball team has signed Georgia Tech transfer Robert Carter Jr.
Carter averaged 11 points and seven rebounds in two seasons with the Yellow Jackets. The 6-foot-8, 247-pounder will enroll at Maryland this summer and be eligible for the 2015-16 season as a redshirt junior.
Terrapins coach Mark Turgeon describes Carter as ''a complete player with a strong offensive skillset.''
As a sophomore last season, Carter averaged 11.4 points and 8.4 rebounds despite missing 10 games with a knee injury.
Previously this offseason, the Terps had five players transfer from the program, including forward Charles Mitchell and guards Seth Allen and Nick Faust.
Carter says he came to Maryland because of the relationship he developed with Turgeon.
