Louisiana-Lafayette 76, South Alabama 70
J.J. Thomas scored 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and Louisiana-Lafayette held South Alabama to just one field goal in overtime for a 76-70 win on Sunday night.
The Ragin' Cajuns (7-14, 4-5 Sun Belt Conference) scored the first four points of overtime as the Jaguars (9-11, 3-6) missed their first three shots. Randell Daigle's layup put Louisiana-Lafayette up 67-63 with 3:25 left.
Martino Brock's 3-pointer brought the Jaguars within one, 69-68, but they would miss three straight baskets as Louisiana-Lafayette went on a 6-0 run. J.J. Thomas' free throws capped the spurt with 17 seconds left.
South Alabama, which shot 33.3 percent for the game (25 of 75) was just 1 of 10 in overtime. The Ragin' Cajuns made 4 of 9 from the field in the extra period.
Travis Bureau added 20 rebounds for Louisiana-Lafayette.
Brock led South Alabama with 19 points.
