Longwood knocks off Randolph College 84-56 in opener
FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) — Isaiah Walton scored 20 points and Jordan Cintron added a double-double to power Longwood to an 84-56 season-opening victory over Division III-member Randolph College on Tuesday night.
Walton sank 7 of 8 free throws as the Lancers shot 80 percent (24 of 30) from the charity stripe to help first-year coach Griff Aldrich notch a win in his debut. Cintron finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Gus Okafor buried 4 of 7 from 3-point range and scored 14, while Lorenzo Phillips tossed in 10 points with five assists.
Sammy Hooper paced the WildCats with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, but he also had eight of Randolph's 26 turnovers. CJ Loving scored 10.
Longwood shot just under 40 percent from the floor (25 of 63), including a 10-for-36 effort from 3-point range (28 percent). The WildCats connected on 21 of 61 shots from the floor (34 percent) and made 8 of 25 from distance (32 percent). Longwood led 48-16 at halftime.
