Liberty beats Alcorn State 76-54
LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Elijah Cuffee scored a career-high 15 points — all in the first half — and Keenan Gumbs added 11 points to pace Liberty past Alcorn State 76-54 on Friday in the Commodore Classic.
Liberty opened the game making 5 of 8 3-pointers and leading 29-16. Cuffee made all six of his first-half shots and Liberty had a 37-25 lead at the break after shooting 62 percent. He attempted two shots in the second half as the Flames' defense held the Braves to 29 points.
Scottie James and Darius McGhee each scored 10 points for Liberty (4-1). The Flames have nonconference games against Georgia State, Georgetown, Alabama and No. 17 UCLA upcoming.
Reginal Johnson scored 12 points for Alcorn State (1-4), which shot 41 percent. The Braves play at No. 15 Mississippi State on Monday.
