Kris Dunn's status uncertain heading into UMass game

Providence ends its non-conference on Monday night at UMass.

The Friars could be without point guard Kris Dunn for the third straight game, according to Kevin McNamara of the Providence Journal.

Dunn has missed the past five halves for No. 14 Providence. Dunn's absence began at halftime against Boston College on Dec. 9, failing to return for the second half. He remained sidelined for singe-digit wins against Bryant and Rider.

The UMass backcourt can pose problems for the Providence perimeter if Dunn is unable to go. Trey Davis is coming off a 40-point performance, while Donte Clark is also capable for exploding offensively. Jabarie Hinds, a fifth-year senior posting 15.6 points per game, rounds out the high-scoring trio.

Kyron Cartwright, who has been inserted into the starting lineup in place of Dunn, is coming off a career-high 13 points in PC's win over Rider on Saturday. Jalen Lindsey, who has started in place of Ryan Fazekas (mono), recorded the first double-double of his career. But like Junior Lomomba, Lindsey has logged heavy minutes with the shortened lineup, averaging 38.0 minutes per game over the last three contests.

The Friars and Minutemen tip at 7 p.m. on Monday night from Amherst.

Dunn’s status for the game is unclear. The coaching staff was planning on him suiting up for the Rider game, but when he complained again of stomach issues late on Friday, Cooley said, "I knew then he wasn’t going to play."
