Jackson State holds off Mississippi Valley State, 60-59 (Feb 24, 2018)
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Jordan Berry hit a 3-pointer with under four minutes to play and Jackson State made it stand up for a 60-59 win over Mississippi Valley State in a Southwestern Athletic Conference battle Saturday night.
Jackson State entered the game tied with Alabama State for the No. 6 seed into the conference tournament, but the Hornets lost, 80-74 to Prairie View, leaving the Tigers alone in sixth place with two games left to play.
Berry's 3 gave Jackson State a 60-55 lead with 3:53 left to play, Jordan Evans hit a jumper and Gemaal Davis scored at the basket to get the Delta Devils within one with 2:16 left, but neither team scored again.
Jeremiah Jefferson scored 18 points and Maurice Rivers added 17 to lead Jackson State (11-17, 8-7).
Evans finished with 20 points and Dante Scott added another 18 for Mississippi Valley State (3-26, 3-13).
