Hokies Men's Hoops Ready For High Point
The Hokies men’s basketball teams seeks to go 2-0 with a victory over the High Point Panthers on Tuesday.
In their last game the Hokies took care of business with a 80-67 win over the Maine Black Bears. Leading the way for the Hokies was Zach LeDay who came off the bench with 20 points and 12 rebounds for his 13th career double-double. LeDay led the balance for the Hokies as he was one of four players in double figures.
Last season the Hokies fell to visiting Appalachian State in their home opener that left the Hokies on the bubble for the entire season. That loss ultimately left Virginia Tech out of the NCAA Tournament.
Despite losing to a more experienced Hokies team, Maine head coach Bob Walsh was very optimistic on his teams efforts.
“It was a good effort, but we just could not sustain it for the full 40 minutes,” Walsh said. “I think we can take away some good things out of this game.”
In their first game of the season, the High Point Panthers earned a 74-41 win over Division III Averett behind a 14 point, eight rebound performance from Andre Fox. It wasn’t hard for the Panthers to shut down the Cougars as High Point led in points off turnovers 25-1.
The Cougars made just 13 of their 60 field goal attempts on the night and shot 14.3 percent from three-point range.
High Point took a 33-21 lead into the half and started the second half on a 11-2 run expanding their lead to 44-23 and they did not look back after that as they led by 20 for the remainder of the game.
For the Hokies, facing High Point shouldn’t become a high task as they should easily take control of the game from opening tip. The game is set to tip off at 7 PM and will be televised on the ACC Network as both teams will seek a 2-0 start to begin the season.
