Grand Canyon pulls away from CS Bakersfield 79-70
PHOENIX (AP) Jerome Garrison scored 28 points Saturday night, including nine in the final 1:25, to lead Grand Canyon past Cal State Bakersfield 79-70.
Issiah Grayson hit a pair of free throws to pull Bakersfield within 66-65 with 1:48 to play, but Garrison scored the game's next seven points - and GCU's next nine - to put the Antelopes up for good.
The Roadrunners (9-14, 2-7 Western Athletic Conference) led by as many as 20 points and took a 41-29 lead into halftime.
Grand Canyon (12-11, 7-3) made 7 of 17 from 3-point range and hit 28 of 37 free throws. CSUB was just 4 of 13 (30.8 percent) behind the arc and 12 of 22 (54.5 percent) from the charity stripe.
Daniel Alexander finished with 18 points and all five of the Antelopes' blocked shots. Killian Larson added 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Brandon Barnes paced the Roadrunners with 19 points.
