Georgetown has a throwback promotion on Monday

The Sweater Game was an endearing moment in an otherwise heated rivalry between Georgetown and St. John's during the 1985 season.

St. John's, led by Chris Mullin, went on a 19-game win streak during that season, taking the No. 1 ranking from Georgetown. St. John's head coach Lou Carnesecca wore the same sweater for each win during that stretch, including the one over the Hoyas.

When the two sides met again a month later, Georgetown head coach John Thompson Jr. revealed that he was wearing a replica T-shirt of the sweater under his blazer. The moment became an instant classic.

The Hoyas won the rematch that night, and won the rubber match in the Final Four later that season.

Fast forward 31 years, and Georgetown University has launched a promotion centered around the sweater.

The first four rows of the student section Verizon Center will receive their own replica sweater T-shirt as a way to, "Welcome Coach Mullin back to D.C. in style." Fans who will receive the T-shirts are also encouraged to wear blazers.

It was only a few weeks ago that the Georgetown marketing department ran another creative promotion, offering discounts on tickets based on snowfall.

Georgetown, which won the first meeting of the season, hosts St. John's at 7 p.m. on FS1.
