Gardner-Webb clinches bye, tops High Point 88-86 in OT (Feb 25, 2017)

HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) Brandon Miller hit the second of two free throws with :33 remaining in overtime to give Gardner-Webb an 87-83 lead and the Runnin' Bulldogs held on to earn an 88-86 victory over High Point in the Big South Conference finale Saturday.

Tarique Thompson scored on a layup and Anthony Lindauer hit a pair of 3-pointers in the final :24 to get High Point within a field goal, but Austin White missed a jumper at the buzzer to tie.

Coming off an 81-76 upset of top-seeded UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb (18-13, 11-7) wrapped up the No. 4 seed into the conference tournament and with it a first-round bye. The Runnin' Bulldogs will face High Point in a quarterfinal battle March 2.

Laquincy Rideau scored 22 points to lead Gardner-Webb, converting 10 of 15 shots from the free throw line.

Miles Bowman, Jr., scored 24 points to lead the Panthers (15-15, 9-9).
