Furman 68, Presbyterian 64

Amu Saaka scored a career-high 29 points and Furman rallied to defeat Presbyterian 68-64 on Tuesday night. The Blue Hose (0-2) jumped out to a 21-8 lead and went into halftime with a 33-30 advantage. The Paladins (2-0) tied the score at 36 on two Saaka free throws with 18:03 left, then neither team scored for about 2 minutes. They stayed within a point of each other until Saaka made a 3-pointer for a 47-43 lead with 9:52 to go. Chase Holmes made two free throws to pull Presbyterian within 64-62 with 39 seconds left, but Furman made 4 of 5 free throws to seal the win. The two teams had not played since 1995. Furman holds a 55-15 edge dating to 1913 and has won 12 of the last 13. Jordan Miller was the only other Paladins player in double figures, scoring 10 points. Holmes led the Blue Hose, coached by former Furman assistant Gregg Nibert, with 19 points.
