FSU Basketball Secures Commitment From Top-50 Recruit

FSU basketball got good news on Monday afternoon, landing a commitment from 7-footer Ikechukwu Obiagu. 

Obiagu fills a major position of need. The Seminoles lose their current starting center Michael Ojo after this season due to graduation. They also lose his back-up Jarquez Smith, which leaves FSU basketball with a hole to fill.

They will look to fill that hole with Obiagu, who is ranked the 47th best prospect in the country via the 247Sports composite rankings. That would make him the highest rated player in Florida State’s 2017 Class.

According to his DraftExpress profile, Obiagu is an elite shot-blocker, moves well for his massive size, and has long arms that allow him to rebound at a high-level. He also plays with a lot of energy.

Looking at the negatives, Obiagu has bad hands, can’t shoot from outside of the paint, and lacks touch. However, a couple of years under the tutelage of Associate Head Coach Stan Jones could change that. After all, Jones did turn former Seminole Solomon Alabi into a 12 point per game scorer as a junior, after coming in with similar limitations to Obiagu.

All in all, his commitment is great news for Florida State, and they will now set their sights on Kevin Knox. He visited Tallahassee for the game against the Gators, and appeared to have a great time.  This class would go from good to great if Leonard Hamilton can land him. Let’s hope he pulls the impossible.
