Fairfield 72, Howard 52

Yorel Hawkins scored 16 points, and Fairfield defeated Howard 72-52 on Tuesday night for its fourth consecutive win.

Colin Nickerson added 11 points and Maurice Barrow had 10 for the Stags (5-3). The Stags won easily despite an off night from leading scorer Derrick Needham, who tallied seven points after hitting double figures in six of the first seven games.

The Stags led 36-24 at halftime and opened the second half on an 11-3 run for a 47-27 lead with 14 minutes remaining. Jamel Fields hit a 3-pointer with 3 minutes to go to give the Stags their largest lead at 69-45.

Fairfield outscored Howard 40-26 in the paint and shot well from the filed, making 27 of 52 attempts (51.9 percent). The Stags also converted 16 Howard turnovers into 22 points.

Alphonso Leary and Anton Dickerson scored 11 points each for Howard (1-8), which lost its eighth straight.
