Ed Cooley: No timetable for Ryan Fazekas' return

Providence's Big East opener against No. 9 Butler was suppose to be somewhat of a homecoming for freshman forward Ryan Fazekas, who grew up in Chesterton, a town located 2 1/2 hours north of Indianapolis.

But the 6-foot-8 sharpshooter is still battling a case of mono, which has sidelined him for the past four games.

"He's home. He's been home now for a week, a week and a half," Providence Ed Cooley said on Tuesday during a Big East coaches' teleconference. "He's still tired, he's lost some weight. Hopefully, we'll see him at the hotel later on tonight. [We're] just trying to get him better.

"There's no timetable. It's one of those things you have to deal with to make sure you take care of the student-athlete."

Fazekas, started the first nine games of the season for the Friars, averaging 7.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game, while shooting a team-best 47 percent from three.

Jalen Lindsey has started in Fazekas' absence and is averaging 12.8 points and 9.3 rebounds in the last four games.

The Friars and Bulldogs are scheduled to tip at 2:30 p.m. EST on Thursday in a matchup of two top-15 teams.
