Duke Basketball Holding Open Practice This Weekend

Duke Basketball fans will be able to get their first look at the 2016-17 Blue Devils this Saturday during an open team practice available to the public.

The Duke Men’s Basketball team announced they will be hosting an open practice this Saturday morning from 9:30-11:30 in Cameron Indoor Stadium before Duke Football hosts Virginia. The event will be free and open to the general public.

There will be several big story lines for the Blue Devils leading up to the season. Two players, redshirt senior Amile Jefferson and freshman Harry Giles, will be returning from season-ending injuries that forced them to miss most of last season. Duke will also be without a point guard after the transfer of Derryck Thornton, so it will be interesting to see who steps in to lead the Blue Devil offense between Grayson Allen and rookie Frank Jackson. Coach K will also have many decisions to make on how to handle the rotation with a deeper team, especially in the post.

Many fans will want to know how the young team will handle the high expectations with Duke being the early 2017 national title favorites right after last season ended, earning the top overall seed in an early bracketology prediction, and a former Blue Devil comparing this year’s team to historically great teams.

We’re a little over three weeks away from the return of Duke Basketball with Countdown to Craziness on October 22nd. This weekend’s event will provide an early look at the team before the season begins. Be sure to check out more info on the open practice here and it’s first come first serve if you are located in Durham and want to check it out.
