Delaware State's Amere May scores 48, setting Division I high for season
Amere May scored a NCAA Division I season-high 48 points to lead Delaware State past St. Francis 72-64 on Wednesday.
May's career high was the second-most single-game total in Delaware State history, trailing Tom Davis' 50 set on Feb. 1, 1989.
May was 16 of 25 from the field, including 6 of 10 from beyond the arc, and hit all 10 of his free throws.
Tyshawn Bell added 17 points for Delaware State (5-6).
Jalen Cannon scored 16 for St. Francis (3-7).
May hit three consecutive 3-pointers to give him 18 points at the 4:52 mark of the first half, as Delaware State held a 30-17 lead.
Delaware State was ahead 36-26 at halftime, led by May's 22 points. May spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at Delaware State before playing his junior year at Division II St. Augustine's.
