Delany has career-best 21, SHSU rolls past ETBU 85-64

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Cameron Delaney hit a career-high 21 points to lead Sam Houston State to an 85-64 season-opening victory over Division III East Texas Baptist on Tuesday night.

East Texas Baptist led throughout the early going until Delaney nailed a jumper for a 24-23 lead with 8:30 left in the first half. Kai Mitchell followed with a layup and Delaney hit a jumper and followed that with a 3-pointer for a 31-23 advantage.

The Bearkats led 36-32 at the break and opened the second half with a surge for a 57-37 advantage with 13:50 remaining.

Marcus Harris had 17 points and Mitchell added 14 while pulling down 13 rebounds for the Bearkats, who shot 48 percent from the field while limiting ETBU to 37 percent shooting.

Westin Riddick led the Tigers with 18 points.
