Davon Reed 3's Lead Miami Hurricanes Over Florida Atlantic
Miami Hurricanes Senior Guard Davon Reed made five three-point goals on his way to 21 points to lead the U to a 76-56 victory over Florida Atlantic.
The game started slowly. Neither team scored for the first 2:28, the first field goal took 2:54 and Reed’s three point field goal 4:06 into the game was Miami’s first points from the field.
Reed had his most efficient game of the season shooting the basketball. He was five for nine on three point attempts, six for ten overall and finished with 21 points. His 2.1 points per shot attempt was a season high.
Anthony Lawrence also contributed to the three point barrage. The Sophomore sixth man made all three of his attempts to finish with 13 points and six rebounds. The rest of the Hurricanes were 0-7 from beyond the arc.
Freshman Guard Bruce Brown continues to shine. He was the only Hurricane in double figures other than Lawrence and Reed. Brown finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. The only downside of his game against the Owls was that he made only four of his 11 shot attempts.

A 12-2 run that began with 12:41 remaining in the first half turned a 10-8 Miami deficit into a 20-12 Hurricanes lead. They would never trail again. The lead ballooned to 39-24 at halftime. The Owls trimmed the margin to 14 42 second into the second half, but that’s as close as they would get the remainder of the game.
The Miami defense continued its elite performance against Florida Atlantic. The Owls made just 19 of their 57 shot attempts and were just three for 17 on three point attempts. FAU was able to connect on 15 of 18 from the foul line or the game would have been an even bigger blowout.
The Hurricanes placed on emphasis on getting back on defense and defending the three according to Miami Head Coach Jim Larranaga per ESPN.
“The key was getting back defensively and defending the 3…That was a point of emphasis and I thought the guys did a great job there.”
Four Owls came into the game averaging in double figures. Only one of those players reached ten points. Leading scorer Adonis Filer came off the bench to score 11 and fellow reserve Marcus Neely who was averaging four Points Per Game led FAU against the Hurricanes with 12.
It was the first game for both teams in ten days. Florida Atlantic surely had Miami’s attention after winning 79-77 in overtime at Ohio State in their previous game on December 6. Five Owls finished in double figures against the Buckeyes and they made ten of their 25 three point attempts.
The Next Game for Miami is George Washington. The Colonials travel to Watsco Arena after beating Central Florida 74-59 in Washington D.C. Thursday night for their third straight win. GW is 8-4. Their losses were to Georgia, UAB and Penn State. They have impressive wins over Temple and Harvard.
