Creighton's Watson, Marquette's Ellenson earn Big East weekly honors
After recording his third double-double of the season, Creighton junior point guard Maurice Watson Jr. was named Big East Player of the Week.
The Boston University transfer scored 13 points and dished 14 assists in the Bluejays' 82-67 win at Seton Hall on Saturday. Earlier in the week, the 5-foot-10 floor general posted a career-best 27 points, as the Bluejays topped Georgetown, 79-66, on Tuesday night.
Creighton, picked to finish ninth in the Big East, has notched back-to-back wins, off to a 3-1 start in conference play. Watson has been a big part of that early success, averaging 18.0 points and 7.5 assists per game against league opponents.
For the third time this season, Marquette's Henry Ellenson was named Big East Freshman of the Week.
The 6-foot-10 projected lottery pick recorded his ninth and tenth double-doubles of the season in a pair of wins for the Golden Eagles.
On Tuesday night, Ellenson had 13 points and 10 rebounds against the Friars, while coming up with the game-saving block on Kris Dunn in Marquette's biggest win of the season. He followed that performance with 15 points and 10 boards in an 81-75 victory over St. John's.
