Butler's Kelan Martin named Big East Player of the Week

Butler forward Roosevelt Jones may have notched a triple-double in Saturday's 89-56 win over St. John's, but teammate Kelan Martin took home Big East Player of the Week honors.

Martin, the favorite for Big East Sixth Man of the Year, recorded a career-high 35 points in a win over Georgetown on Tuesday night. He followed that with a team-high 18 points against the Red Storm.

This is the second time the 6-foot-6 sophomore earned player of the week honors.

For the fourth time this season, Xavier's Edmond Sumner was named Big East Freshman of the Week. Only Marquette's Henry Ellenson has earned the weekly honor more times.

Xavier's redshirt freshman guard averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in a week that included wins over Marquette and St. John's. The Musketeers have won five in a row.
