Burris’ 3 in OT sends UMass-Boston past Holy Cross 69-66
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Tommy Burris hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:31 left in overtime for his only points in the game and Division III-member Massachusetts-Boston upset Holy Cross 69-66 on Tuesday night.
Charles Mitchell paced UMass-Boston with 21 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Dasan Cinelli pitched in with 14 points and seven boards, while Charlie Mitchell scored 12. Michael Boyd scored 10 with four assists.
Blake Verbeek hit two free throws with 1:57 left in overtime to give Holy Cross (1-9) a 64-62 lead. Burris answered with his 3-pointer for the Beacons. Boyd hit a bucket with 38 seconds left to push the UMass-Boston lead to 67-64. Freshman Joe Pridgen sank two free throws 9 seconds later to pull the Crusaders within 67-66, but Charlie Mitchell hit 2 of 4 free throws in the final 19 seconds to preserve the victory.
Pridgen topped Holy Cross with a career-high 32 points, hitting 11 of 17 shots from the floor. He added eight rebounds and three assists. Austin Butler had 13 rebounds to help the Crusaders win the battle of the boards 40-35.
Pridgen sank 1 of 2 free throws with 51 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.
