Boyd's buzzer-beating layup lifts Mason over UMass in OT (Feb 24, 2018)
FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) Otis Livingston II had seven of his 22 points in overtime and assisted on Ian Boyd's game winning basket to help George Mason beat Massachusetts 78-76 on Saturday.
The Patriots (14-15, 8-8 Atlantic 10) never trailed in the extra period although the Minuteman (11-18, 4-12) tied it at 76-all on C.J. Anderson's jumper with five seconds left. Livingston then took it the other way and dished to Boyd for the go-ahead scoop as time expired. It was Boyd's second game-winning buzzer-beater in a row for the Patriots - his 3 on Wednesday night lifted Mason over Saint Joseph's.
UMass overcame a 16-point halftime deficit, opening the second half with a 14-2 run and taking the lead at 57-55 on Rayshawn Miller's basket with 2:21 left. The Minutemen led 64-61 but fouled Goanar Mar on a 3-point attempt with 0.9 seconds left and Mar made all three foul shots to force overtime.
Mar and Jaire Grayer had 18 points each and Grayer grabbed 10 rebounds for Mason.
Anderson led UMass with 21 points, Carl Pierre added 15 and Malik Hines had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
