Blue Devil Named Finalist for Top NCAAW Point Guard Award

Duke Women’s Basketball guard Lexie Brown was recently named one of the finalists for the 2017 Nancy Lieberman Award.

Redshirt junior guard Lexie Brown was named a finalist for the 2017 Nancy Lieberman Award. The award is presented by the Basketball Hall of Fame to the top point guard in women’s college basketball.

Lexie Brown has excelled for the Blue Devils this year in her first year of eligibility after transferring from Maryland. She leads the team in scoring with 17.9 points per game and has scored efficiently making 48% of her field goals, 40% of her three pointers, and 92% of her free throws. Earlier this season, the 5-9 guard was named ACC Player of the Week after dominant performances against Virginia Tech and Boston College. Brown also eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for her college career in December.

The award is given to the player who displays the best floor leadership, play-making abilities, and ball-handling skills, which Brown has excelled in this season. She’s made a huge impact on the program helping them overcome their struggles last season. The list will be trimmed down to five finalists in March and the winner will be announced during the NCAA Women’s Final Four.

Duke Women’s Basketball will host Syracuse on Friday night in their next game. Congrats to Lexie Brown on being named one of the Top 10 finalists for NCAAW point guard of the year!
