Battle commits to Syracuse, but Orange low on scholarships
Blue-chip 2016 recruit Tyus Battle announced on Monday that he's going to attend Syracuse to play his college basketball.
That would normally be great news for Jim Boeheim and company, but they are crunched for scholarships. Syracuse is facing NCAA sanctions, including a reduction of three scholarships a year for a four-year period. That penalty begins with the 2016-17 season. As a result, Syracuse can have only 10 players on scholarship at that time.
Battle puts them at 11 for 2016-17.
Still, the 6-foot-5 guard is a welcomed addition. The former Michigan commit is one of the best players in his class, but tough decisions loom for the 'Cuse.
