Arkansas-Little Rock fires coach; 7-25 mark set loss record
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has fired its basketball coach after his team lost a school-record 25 games.
Wes Flanigan's team ended the season with a 29-point loss to Appalachian State in the Sun Belt Tournament on Wednesday. The school fired Flanigan on Friday, two years after he was hired.
Athletic director Chasse Conque said the school's goal is to compete for championships.
The 25 losses, against just seven victories, were the most for the Trojans in their 88 seasons of playing basketball.
Two seasons ago, under Chris Beard, the team finished 30-5 and, as a 12th seed, beat Purdue in the NCAA Tournament before losing to Iowa State. Beard is now at Texas Tech.
